On Saturday, Anton Dowds was named Ladbrokes League 1 Player of the Month for January and was presented with his award before training the the Oriam on Thursday.
Anton started the month with a goal against Airdrieonians in a match East Fife went on to lose that game 2-1, the only defeat of the month. That was followed by a 2-0 victory over Montrose at Links Park when Dowds gave veteran centre-halves Dillon and Campbell a torrid time, setting up the first of Liam Watt’s two goals that day and was unlucky not to find himself on the score sheet when he pressured Dillion into a short back post but Dowds’ strike just curled past the post.
Up next was a 2-1 Victory over Greenock Morton in the 4th round of the Scottish Cup at the Locality Hub Bayview Stadium. Morton had taken an early lead only for Dowds to equalise almost immediately from a well worked corner before Craig Watson sealed victory 15 minutes from time.
Dowds finished the month with a brace against Stranraer at Stair Park when the visitors recovered from 3-1 down to win 4-3. Stranraer had taken the lead into the break with two first half goals. Kevin Smith pulled one back shortly after half-time only for Victoria to restore the 2-goal advantage. Craig Watson made it 3-2 with 20 minutes left to play and Dowds levelled the match moments later with a strike from 10-yards before he completed the comeback when he headed in Watt’s corner with 10 minutes left to play taking his goal tally for the season to 10.
Congratulations Anton from everyone at East Fife!
The club wishes to provide fans with an update regarding the postponement of today’s Irn Bru Cup Quarter Final match v Bohemian FC.
The match referee inspected the pitch at 1.30 pm and was not satisfied that it was in a safe condition at that time but was willing to give the game a chance by delaying a decision to nearer kick off. After discussions between officials and management from both sides, along with input from the SPFL and FAI, the decision was taken to call the game off.
During these discussions, the possibility of playing the match later this evening or tomorrow morning on an artificial surface was explored but no suitable alternative could be found. The SPFL will now meet on Monday to decide the next steps, after which we will provide an update.
The club can only apologies to the hundred of fans who travelled over to Dublin to support the team and fully appreciate the expense incurred.
Thanks again for your continued support it was fantastic to see so many photos of black & gold scarfs all over the city!
We’re delighted to announce the signing of Broque Watson on loan from Motherwell until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old winger joined Motherwell last summer having come through the youth system at Celtic where made 5 appearance in the UEFA Youth League playing against Bayern Munich, Anderlecht and PSG.
Unfortunately, Broque is unable to feature in our Irn Bru Challenge Cup Quarter Final against Bohemians on Saturday having played, and scored for, Motherwell Colts in previous round but will still travel with the squad to Dublin.
Welcome to Bayview Broque!
We’re delighted to announce that Brett Long and Ross Davidson have both agreed to extend their contracts for a year and half keeping them at Bayview until the summer of 2020.
Brett joined the club in the summer from Dundee United and made his debit in the Betfred Cup against St. Johnstone in July. Brett has 9 clean sheets in 27 appearance so far this season which have included many notable saves including an impressive triple save against Montrose in September and point-blank stops against Greenock Morton and Stranraer.
Ross also signed on at Bayview in the summer after 3 years at Albion Rovers where he was part of Darren Young’s League 2 championship winning side in 2014/15. Ross has featured in all but one of our 31 matches so far this season scoring twice; the second in a 2-1 victory over Berwick Rangers in the Scottish Cup and a goal-of-the-season contender against Montrose.
We’re delighted to announce that we have agreed terms with goalkeeper Daniel Terry. Daniel has recently featured in the match day squad as a trialist and his previous clubs include Shettleston, Selkirk and most recently Larkhall Thistle. Welcome to Bayview Daniel
