The Fifers and City had to settle for a point apiece in this tough encounter at Bayview; Wallace's first half strike cancelled out by Lister in the second.
With Chris Inness playing as a trialist, the Fifers were first to settle, and opened the scoring after only seven minutes - Smith cleverly giving Wallace a reverse pass in space; the young striker firing low past Nelson in goalThe Fifers tried to build on that lead, with dangerous crosses by Linn and Ogleby; and efforts by Wallace both on and off target. The goalscorer looked to have a won a penalty on the half-hour mark when bundled over in the box, but the referee waved play on. As the half ended, Muir had a shot in the box blocked, then City had their first clear chance of the match on 45 mins when Lister turned and fired past the post.
A brief period of City pressure followed, buoyed by the goal against the run of play, but the home side stood firm, and worked their way back into the ascendancy - including a hectic few minutes when Linn had two efforts deflected, and both Dalziel and Park headed wide of the woodwork. City responded with a couple of long-range shots which did not trouble the home keeper, before an unsuccesful Linn penalty claim and his free kick fired against the wall in the last minutes completed the action in this always engrossing match.
